Spatial data

We collect and share energy-related spatial data on offshore petroleum, greenhouse gas and electricity infrastructure.

Spatial data is the earth’s physical locations and features stored as digital information in geographic information systems (GIS). This information is used by industry and governments to assist evidence-based decision making.

This activity relates to the:

• Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storeage Act 2006
• Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Act 2021

NOPTA map services and downloads

Our Geospatial team produces map services to help businesses and others create and enhance working maps to support their projects. There is no cost for this access.

The spatial data is based on GDA94 datum.

Datasets

Our data reflects the information stored in the:

• National Offshore Petroleum Management System (NOPIMS)
• National Electronic Approvals Tracking System (NEATS)

Australia’s offshore energy regulator protecting the workforce and the environment is NOPSEMA. Their website has details on how marine seismic surveys are performed and managed to meet government regulations.
