Changes to the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 and regulations come into force on Wednesday 2 March 2022.
These are the first of a suite of measures to ensure that Australia plans for and manages increased levels of decommissioning as the offshore petroleum industry matures. The changes also address a range of other matters including application requirements and decision–making criteria.
Following consultation, updated guidelines, fact sheets, and forms have been refined and finalised. These will take effect on 2 March 2022, and will be required to be used for applications and notifications on and after that date.
