Why we collect information

NOPTA collects information through a range of forms, applications, notices and other submissions to NOPTA made under the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 (OPGGS Act).

This information is necessary to allow NOPTA to perform its functions and exercise its powers under the OPGGS Act. These functions and powers include, but are not limited to :

  • Assessing applications
  • Making recommendations and/or giving advice to decision–maker under the OPGGS Act
  • Making decisions where NOPTA is the decision–maker under the OPGGS Act
  • Affording procedural fairness to applicants under the OPGGS Act
  • Other functions and powers as set out in the OPGGS Act and associated regulations.

The Offshore Infrastructure Registrar collects information through forms, applications, notices and other submissions to the Offshore Infrastructure Registrar made under the Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Act 2021 (OEI Act). These functions and powers include, but are not limited to :

  • Receiving and assessing applications
  • Giving advice to decision–maker under the OEI Act
  • Making decisions where the Offshore Infrastructure Registrar is the decision–maker under the OEI Act
  • Maintaining the Register of Offshore Infrastructure Licences
  • Affording procedural fairness to applicants under the OEI Act
  • Other functions and powers as set out in the OEI Act.

What information we collect

Through forms hosted on this website personal information is collected in accordance with the APPs.

This information may include but is not limited to:

  • Your name
  • Contact details
  • Your signature.

If the forms collect your sensitive information, the form will specify what information is being collected and for what purpose.

What happens if you don’t provide personal information

Not providing NOPTA or the Offshore Infrastructure Registrar with information required by an approved form may result in the form being incomplete, and unable to be assessed.

In some cases, failure to provide NOPTA with information required under the OPGGS Act may constitute a breach of the OPGGS Act.

In some cases, failure to provide the Offshore Infrastructure Registrar with information required under the OEI Act may constitute a breach of the OEI Act.

Disclosure of personal information

NOPTA may disclose your personal information where authorised or required to do so by law.
