Declaration of location guideline published
24 July 2017
The National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator (NOPTA) and the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (DIIS) have published a new Declaration of a location guideline. A declaration of location is required to transition petroleum containing blocks within an exploration permit into a new retention lease or production licence. The guideline provides information to industry stakeholders about the processes for nomination, variation and revocation of a declaration of a location.
The guideline has been developed as part of a NOPTA/ DIIS process of reviewing offshore petroleum guidelines to ensure clear guidance is provided to industry. The guideline reflects previous technical amendments to the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006, which clarified the operation of a number of relevant legislative provisions. No policy changes have been made through the development of this guideline.
